Making Cents II: Winning Strategies in this Economy

Tuesday, August 30, 9:30 am – 12:30 pm

Western Arts Alliance (WAA)

Seattle, WA

Members $125 / Non-Members $155

Innovative agents, managers, artists and presenters are taking a more collaborative approach and finding new paradigms to complete deals beyond the guaranteed fee. As an in-depth follow-up to last year’s highly successful panel "Making Artistic '¢ents' in This Economy", this NAPAMA session expands the dialogue and offers concrete strategies that experienced managers and presenters are using to overcome the constraints of the recession.

In this workshop, you'll learn about:

Marketing: How managers market their artists to, and communicate with, presenters; we’ll look at expectations on both sides; tools presenters need to market the artists to their audience. Collaboration: New ways artists, managers and presenters are interacting, collaborating and communicating with each other. Contracting: Making deals, including negotiation of split points and percentages.

Saturday, January 7, 8:00 a.m.

Sheraton Conference K

Association of Performing Arts Presenters (APAP) 2012

The roles of agents, managers and producers are increasingly blurred. What is the distinction of each as it regards artist and presenter relationships? Are there liability concerns in making deals as a producer vs agent vs manager? What are the questions and/or concerns for presenters dealing with agents/managers who produce or producers who "book"? Come with your thoughts and help us untangle the web. Session to be moderated by Brian Taylor Goldstein with panelists TBA.

When I entered the presenting field in 1982 it was the artist managers and booking agents who first took me under their wing and gave me my introduction me to the presenting field, and I'm forever in their debt for the essential professional services and collegial guidance that they have continued to give me over the years.
