Agents & Managers Retreat

Like getting a college semester of valuable knowledge in two days, then there is the social end that builds relationships that can turn into project partnerships. Finally, there is simply the FUN relaxed environment all this good stuff happens in. Invaluable
— Respondent, 2017 Retreat Survey

About the Retreat:

Started in 2011, the retreat has grown since both in numbers, and in ideas and content. The NAPAMA Agents & Managers Retreat is open to any agent, manager, self-managed artist or presenter who is interested in being part of the conversation. The Retreat provides small business owners who operate within the performing arts industry an opportunity to network, learn, and share information and resources with other agents and managers. It is three days where agents and managers step away from their daily operations to focus on business planning and solutions for current issues. Topics typically include sales training and strategy, agency methodology, social media, equity in the arts, and work/life balance.

The next NAPAMA retreat will be in 2020.

New Colleagues Sessions

NAPAMA works with performing arts conferences to sponsor the new colleagues sessions, which follow our mentoring guidelines. In the 2018-2019 conference season, NAPAMA is sponsoring the new colleagues sessions at Western Arts Alliance, Arts Midwest, and Performing Arts Exchange. Support NAPAMA, welcome your new colleagues to the field and conferences, and join us.

Know a new colleague? First time conference goers can feel overwhelmed and alone. Please support them by sharing this with them — and let them know about NAPAMA.

Professional Development Series

NAPAMA curates a series of professional development sessions called Making Artistic Cents at performing arts conferences. Each session features different speakers, with the underlying theme consistent across the conference season. For 2018-2019, the subtitle of Making Artistic Cents is Mission & Money.

Making Artistic Cents . . . Mission & Money

We explore how conversations between presenters, artists and agents/managers can culminate in presenting “out of the box” work that meets a presenter’s mission and is successful for the artist and agent/manager.  Whether we’re talking about a performance, a residency, or a combination of the two, we’ll hear specific ways that artists, agents/managers and presenters have used good communication as a tool to unite mission and budget. This can apply to new and groundbreaking work, ideas that challenge current norms, music and dance from other cultures, or anything that may not be an obvious “easy sell.”
